1. New York State Historical Maps

Create a double bubble map in Inspiration comparing and constrasting two maps from different centuries in New York State history. Using Microsoft Word, write an essay comparing and contrasting these two maps. Copy and paste both maps into Word. Insert your double bubble map from Inspiration.

2. Learn the New York State counties

Learn the New York State counties. Click on each area of the map and learn the names of the counties. Then go on to step 3 to play the game.

Play the New York State Counties game and see how many of the counties you are able to identify. Then go on to step 4 and label your own New York State map.

4. Label a Map of New York State

Copy the blank map of New York state (per class instructions) into your Paint document. Go back to step 2 to review the locations of the counties. Label the counties of New York.  Color your map.

Circle the county you live in. Plan a trip to a different location in New York State. In Word, write a journal of this trip, explaining how you would travel, how long the trip is in miles and time. Insert the map you created into your Word document.

5. Hudson Valley New York History

Research the Native Americans of New York State. Create a table in Word per class instructions to research facts in four different categories (ex. If you are researching the Iroquois Indians, you may have the following categories: Tools, Foods, Clothing, Language). Using the information in your table, create a 4-Square in Word and outline an essay you would write about the information you researched. Then, write a research report using your 4-Square. You may imbellish your research report by creating a title page that includes a WordArt title, your name, class and date. You may also insert pictures where necessary.

6. Important Events in New York State History

Click on each episode in New York State history. Step 1: Create a journal in Word. Imagine that you are a citizen of New York State during each episode. Date each entry and write a personal journal of what you observe and relate all your activities in each episode. Step 2: Then, using Inspiration, create a timeline of New York State history, outlining all important events. Step 3: Imagine you are the new curator of a museum about New York State history. Create a brochure using Word that includes artifacts and pictures of events from New York State history that you would include in your museum.
