My 4th grade students are having difficulty solving simple mathematical word problems due to inability to read and/or to make appropriate mathematical operation choices. The 4th grade Math / 3-5 cluster ESTIMATION, MEASUREMENT, AND COMPUTATION content standard states that In order to develop understanding of Estimation, Measurement, and Computation, the mathematics curriculum should include problems which require students to apply appropriate tools and units of measurement, to develop effective estimation and computation strategies for producing reasonable results, and to calculate using appropriate tools such as mental mathematics, technology, manipulatives, and pencil-and-paper. This unit will include online lesson s to increase the use of the internet in the classroom for research and to practice skills as described in the Profiler teacher Usage Survey.
