In my eighth grade literature class we study many authors, with Edgar Allan Poe being one of the students' favorites. This unit will address my learning gap of comprehending and evaluating the poems and stories we read in class. The TN Curriculum Standard for grades 6-8 states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. This unit will also address the student survey question of spotting facts, concepts, and vocabulary when they learn something new and trying tasks that seem hard to do.
