After reviewing 1998-1999 Terra-Nova scores and looking at the grades on teacher-made tests, it was evident that my fourth-grade students had a learning gap in reading comprehension and using words in context. The reading standard for grades 3-5 in the TN Curriculum Framework Content is that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.
