The stated learning gap is lack of abilitity to recall details and distinguish fact or fantasy. This unit will require the students to compare and contrast stories, discuss differences between fiction and non-fiction, and think about the writing process and how different authors treat the same subject. It will allow the students to learn to spot important facts as stated in the survey and to learn to distinguish fact from fantasy using important facts about apples. The wonderful poems, creative art activities, and many pieces of literature will make this a very exciting unit.
