Track Description
This track combines reading and music skills. Students in music class can enrich their reading skills by applying a variety of reading skills such as reading orally, utilizing sight words, and experiencing literature of multicultural diversity. Third grade students in our school have difficulty reading orally. This unit will help students identify words by sight using rhyming techniques. The third grade reading standard states, the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. "Integrated Music" will help students strengthen oral reading skills by familiarizing them with rhyming words. Students will broaden their knowledge of rhymes through poetry, books, and songs. The students in my music class can find ways to use what they learn in my class in other subject areas as reading skills are neccessary in all subjects.
