 Track Description
Track-A-Day
This track is designed to assist the third grade teacher in integrating an author study within a writer's workshop in the classroom. The books and authors I have included are not a part of my reading series. However, they are books that third graders can read and enjoy. I wanted to introduce new books to my students. My students had a tendency to just recycle books that other students had read and not explore other authors. Plus, I have wanted a way to teach different stlyes of writing modeled after outstanding children's authors. Additionally, I wanted to showcase STAR AUTHORS on a web page to publish students' work in an exciting new way. This is how I intend to accomplish these tasks. First, students are exposed to an author's work through read alouds, independent reading, or partner reading. Second, students conduct research in groups on the featured author using the sites provided. As a class, we combined the research to publish it on a web page. Third, students create a short story or poem modeled after the author's style. There are links provided to support the writing process. Finally, students publish their stories on the web featured under STAR AUTHORS on my class webpage so that parents can easily locate them.
