The TN K-2 Language Arts Content Standard: Writing states that the student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. This Track focuses on skills necessary for an elementary student in the lower grades to compose a well written paragraph. Several sites provide activities that address higher order thinking skills within the context of the lessons. In this track students will practice a variety of prewriting activities to generate ideas, use elements of the writing process as appropriate, begin to recognize and demonstrate knowledge of sentence mechanics and standard spelling, write for a variety of purposes, and demonstrate the mechanics of common and proper nouns.
