This unit, “Think Like a Scientist” will provide my students with the added practice of using science process skills to collect, process, and interrupt data. These lessons will enable my students to conduct science experiments following guided procedures. My students need to practice reading data and interrupting data, which will help them on the Terra Nova in science, social studies and reading. This unit of study will meet the following Tennessee Curriculum Framework Standards for Science for Grade Cluster 6 – 8: Tennessee Standard 1.1a - Observing is a process used to develop an awareness of the surrounding environment. Tennessee Standard 1.1b - The human senses and technological instruments are used to gather information from the environment. Tennessee Standard 1.2b - Questions may be structured so that they can be investigated scientifically. Tennessee Standard 1.3a - Data are collected using the senses, instrumentation, and a variety of other technologies. Tennessee Standard 1.3b - Data should be appropriate, accurate, and free of bias. Tennessee Standard 1.4a - Data should be examined to find patterns and relationships. Tennessee Standard 1.5a - Tables and graphs may be used to interpret the meaning and significance of data. Tennessee Standard 1.6a - The sharing and disseminating of results should be done in a clear and concise manner and Tennessee Curriculum Framework for Computer Technology: Literacy and Usage Grades 6-8 Standard 6. The student will use technology as a tool to conduct and evaluate research and to communicate effectively information and ideas.
