Fifth graders have had opportunities to explore various sources to find information about science topics. They need experiences that allow them to create a new form from the information that they find. As teachers, it is important that we approach them with an interdisciplinary approach, allowing them to tie learning from different subjects together. This trackstar incorporates the following standards:
English/Language Arts (3-5) The student will use, read, and view media/technology and analyze content and concepts accurately. Science: Unifying Concepts of Science (3-5) The sharing and disseminating of results should be done in a clear and concise manner. Technology Standard 5 (3-5) The student will use a variety of technologies to improve classroom learning, increase productivity, and support creativity. As part of the unit, students will research to find information about an element, write a paper with their findings including correct bibliographic citations, create a comic strip story with facts about their element, and create a graphic organizer about the life of Dmitri Mendeleev.
