ESL students enjoy hearing and reading literature, yet are unfamiliar with some traditional English stories. They also enjoy learning about other countries, especially if one of their classmates is from a particular country. Whatever topic is being studied, teachers need to place a strong emphasis on language development and interaction. In addition to addressing these needs, this track also addresses the learning gap in our ESL class of not using computers for information or communication. This unit incorporates the following standards:Technology Standard #6 The student will use technology as a tool to conduct and evaluate research and to communicate effectively information and ideas. Language Arts: Viewing and Representing (3-5)The student will use, read, and view media/technolgy and analyze content and concepts accurately. Social Studies: Geography (3-5) The student will demonstrate a basic geographic knowledge through identifying and locating major physical and political features on maps and globes. For this track, students will be creating a travel poster about Zimbabwe from the information gleaned from online sources. They will also create postcards with pictures of animals and information about the animals in Zimbabwe. They will locate Zimbabwe on a map of Africa and note the surrounding countries.
