Middle school students need a lot of encouragement and incentive to keep them reading. They are especially fond of action stories and stories involving pets. Stone Fox is such a story and is short enough for a good classroom read, but intense enough to be exciting and also have food for thought. This unit study on Stone Fox will satisfy TN Curriculum Standard for Language Arts Reading 6-8 which states: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. The unit also addresses #22 on the Survey (My students use Internet in my classroom to research topics) since students will be doing enrichment activities involving Internet research.
