Top Track

Students will research different kinds of weather phenomena, and how weather affects different parts of the world. They will put together a pamphlet which provides information about weather related emergencies, and how to prepare for such a weather event. The pamphlet will be made up of two main sections: useful weather related information, and preparation information. Students should include their own drawings and pictures related to each section. This unit integrates a number of subjects, such as science, social studies, and language arts. It is geared towards English Language Learners, and aims to fulfill the standards set for ESL students in New York State. The Standards this unit touches on are: Standard 1: Students will listen, speak, read, and write in English for information and understanding. Performance Indicators 1, 2, 5, 7. Standard 2: Students will listen, speak, read, and write in English for literacy response, enjoyment, and expression. Perfomance Indicators: 1, 2, 8. Standard 4: Students will listen, speak, read, and write in English for classroom and social interaction. Performance Indicators: 2.
