 Track Description
This unit will interest the students by drawing in all subject areas. The students will hear the text being read and be able to discuss what is being read. Different activities will help the students comprehend what is being read. The students will get more experience on the internet with sites that will help them to understand the text more fully. Students will also be able to explore the different areas of the text at their home computer. Students will be able to spot the important facts, concepts, and vocabulary while they are learing something new. Students will also find different ways to tell others what they have learned. Students will also use the internet to explore topics discussed in Woodsong. The students will comprehend what is being read, and they will be able to make inferences. The content standard says: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written word. I chose Woodsong because it is different than any selection in our reading books. I also chose this selection because students love animals, and animals are also near and dear to my heart. Lastly, I chose this selection because I felt I could be enthusiastic about it and therefore teach it quite successfully. The school improvement plan calls for increasing student achievement in reading, and I believe this unit will help. I am excited about teaching this unit.
