 Track Description

Imagine having no control over your life. You work when you’re told (often in the heat and sun from dusk to dawn), and your family members can be sold at anytime, never seeing them again. Not only are you not taught to read, write, or count, you may not even know how old you are. That is only a glimpse of what life is like for a slave. But WAIT! What if you could escape?! It may be scary, you might get caught, but it’s your ONLY CHANCE to be the master of your own destiny. Are you in?

Prior to the Civil War in the United States, slavery was a way of life and culture for many living in slave and border states. On this virtual field trip, you will learn more about slavery in America and the history of the Underground Railroad - your path to freedom if you were a slave that chose to escape. You will use what you learn to create your own hyperlinked "Choose Your Own Adventure" PowerPoint to teach others about slavery and the Underground Railroad.
