 Track Description
The stated learning gap is over word recognition and vocabulary in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. This unit was chosen because it requires the student to identify and apply the language within Romeo and Juliet to the "common" language of today. The students will study Shakespeare and his play Romeo and Juliet. They will be introduced to the language and elements used in this type of literature. The 9th grade Language Arts curriculum standard states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and the appreciation of the written test. I chose this unit because it allows the students to work with important facts, concepts and vocabulary when they are learning something new. They can also use this unit to work with the Internet in researching the language of the Renaissance period and William Shakespeare.
