This unit was developed for teaching the novel - The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This unit requires the students to produce several different forms of writing such as a letter, poem, descriptive paragraph, and a book review. The 7th Grade Language Arts 6-8 cluster writing content standard states that the students will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. I chose this unit because the students explore important themes and social issues throught the novel. Most activities in this unit ask students to focus on these important issues and relate them to their contemporary world through a form of writing.
