The stated learning gap is applying various reading strategies and reading comprehension. The unit "Stellaluna" was chosen because it combines the opportunity to read a book approximately at the students reading level with motivation for further research. The 5th grade language arts/reading content standard states that the student will develop reading skill necessary for word recognition, comprehension, and analysis of the text. I chose this unit because it allowed me to use the Internet with my class to research and answer questions online. The Stellaluna Track for low level 5th grade reading students was created aid students in word recognition, comprehension, and evaluation of the written text. The students will investigate bat anatomy and habitats and take an online comprehension quiz.
