The stated learning gap is that students have difficulties learning their multiplication facts. The unit "Multiplication Blast Off" was chosen because it combines memorization of multiplication facts with increasing speed of recall. The 5th grade Math / 3-5 cluster Number Sense and Number Theory content standard states that the student will recognize, represent, and model real numbers and operations verbally, physically, symbolically, and graphically. I chose this unit because it allowed me to use the Internet in my class to answer questions or practice skills on line as described in the Profiler teacher Usage Survey.
