Track Description
While it is important to learn about feudalism and its social structures, it's also important to remember that feudalism was a system made up of real people with real life experiences. This leads to two obvious questions:
1. What was it like to live in feual Europe?
2. What was it like to have been a lord, vassal, knight, peasant, serf, or clergyman?
ASSIGNMENT:
Conduct some research and then write a short story, entitled “A DAY IN THE LIFE OF ......”, following the directions outlined below.Your stories may be as creative as you wish, yet you must also be historically accurate.Remember, this is an individual project and will be graded as such, using the NBHS Writing Rubric.
DIRECTIONS:
Choose a member of the European feudal structure that seems interesting to you.
Lord
clergy

serf
Knight
artisan, merchant, farmer
IN-CLASS:
Conduct some research (either on-line, in an encyclopedia, or from your textbook) to find out more about the everyday life of your character.Find out things such as:
How did your character live?What was life like for them?
What were the privileges and/or limitations of their class?
HOMEWORK:
Write a short story, ASIFYOUWERETHATCHARACTER, about a typical day in your life.Again, be as creative as you wish, but be historically accurate.
NEXT CLASS:Be prepared to share your story with the class.
