Description of Track: These links provide access to literature units based on the novel, The Egypt Game. The units are designed to provide a variety of activities to engage students in reading, research, writing, art, music and drama. These activities may all be used or may stand alone. A TN Curriculum Frameworks Content for Reading in grades 3-5 states : The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. Learning expectations for this standard include the following: *Experience and develop interest in literature which includes multicultural, gender, and ethnic diversity. *Apply a variety of reading strategies. *Extend reading vocabulary utilizing sight words, phonetic and structural analysis, and context. *Improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating written text. *Use comprehension strategies to enhance understanding, to make predictions, and to respond to literature. *Read orally to develop fluency, expression, accuracy, and confidence. *Read independently for a variety of purposes. *Utilize sources of information including technological tools. *Develop study skills to facilitate learning. *Develop skills in making inferences and recognizing unstated assumptions. * Identify literary genres. * Identify and interpret figurative language.
