The stated learning gap is difficulty decoding unknown words. The unit Charlotte's Web was chosen because it requires the students to read from the chapter book, Charlotte's Web. The 3-5 cluster Reading content standard states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit because it allows my students to use the Internet to explore Charlotte's Web in an effort to improve their decoding skills as addressed in teacher pre-survey question #22.
