 Track Description
The curriculum framework states that students will exhibit an understanding of the contributions made, within our culture, by African Americans. THis is a learning gap in the 8th grade Language Arts class. Students need to recognize and acknowledge these contributions. This unit will create an awareness of technological advances made by African Americans. It will allow students to apply their Internet browsing skills to locate information. It will help the students to organize and summarize their thoughts in an essay. They will develop an oral presentation with visuals or power point. Students will practice note taking skills during presentations. They will formulate questions for discussion during small groups to help them assess the information obtained during presentations. Students will develop an interest in literature and will articulate what they have learned.
